About Legacy Horse Training
Legacy Horse Training, founded in 2005, is on a mission to bring a relaxed and fun atmosphere to horsemanship. Using a gentle, common sense approach, horses and people are trained to respond to one another in a consistent and respectful manner that allows the owner and horse to establish a true bond that is based in mutual trust. Through the exclusive “Roots to Grow, Wings to Fly” program, students are given the skills to feel confident in the horse-human relationship. Legacy Horse Training promotes a relaxed and comfortable family atmosphere, hoping that there are no “clients,” only new friends.
Jamie Dodson, Certified Horse Trainer
Owner, Head Trainer, Mom, Best Friend
Upon making the decision to commit herself to a career in horsemanship, Jamie conducted a nationwide search for an appropriate school and mentor. Fortunately, she was able to find a truly gifted and personable teacher right here in Virginia. Kenny Harlow of Cumberland spent a considerable time studying horsemanship in Colorado under John Lyons, who is considered “America’s Most Trusted Horseman.” As a result, Kenny, along with RFD TV personality Ken McNabb, was a graduate of John Lyons’s first certification program class. Through Kenny’s program, Jamie was able to learn from Kenny and John, as well as many others, to include a haute-ecole dressage instructor from Michigan. After nearly two years of study, Jamie became a Certified Trainer under Kenny Harlow’s “Training with Trust” program.
Jamie has honed her personal style by attending countless events and clinics put on by trainers of many disciplines including police horse and mounted patrol instruction and clinics featuring Buck Brannaman, who was the basis for the main character in The Horse Whisperer; and Colleen Kelly, an Australian trainer and judge, who is the only person in history to receive a perfect score on the Prix St. George Dressage Judge‘s Examination. Jamie’s style is truly her own but has been influenced by many. Jamie has adopted one of Kenny Harlow’s primary instructions to his students, which is to study under as many trainers as possible and find your own way through learning from all of them.
